šBee hotels aren't for raising bees, they're for understanding bees. While I usually hide behind the camera, I decided to step in front of it here to talk a bit about changing the way we think about wild bee hotels, and how fun it can be to watch them do what they do!
Full Transcript:
Some people will use this house almost like a bird house, where it's not necessarily about whether they're pollinating your plants or not, even though they are. It comes down to just being fascinated.
You want the ability to actually watch bees, where in nature they'll find holes in dead wood, small cracks and other places to live. But it's kind of hard to track those down if you want to actually watch these bees do their thing.
It's great to have a dedicated spot to do that. And so when you set these up, you've got a whole range of different species where you can see everything from the larger leaf-cutters bees, to the small Hylaeus bees, all doing what they're doing in one spot.
And if you have the bee blocks with a viewing window, you can actually open them up, see the nest being built and watch that mother bee operate as she's raising her young
