Bee Blocks
When the bee blocks that come with your home are used up by mother bees, you can set them aside somewhere safe outdoors or in a garage — even through the winter — and replace them with fresh, new blocks until those bees emerge. (See our release box guide here on how to make a simple box to safely house them.)
Each of our bee blocks is made from solid, untreated white oak and comes with two UV resistant elastic bands for keeping it sealed shut. They are sold individually. You can read more about the thinking behind our nesting block design and how it protects from parasites here.
While these blocks are designed to be opened for cleaning, opening is not recommended while the nest is being built. This could disturb the delicate cell walls and harm the young bees. If you would like to observe the nest progress, we recommend purchasing our bee viewing blocks instead.
Size Guide
You can see some of the bees and wasps that live in each size block in the Scopa Gallery. Although there are many species we do not currently have photos of yet, here is a rough guide of some of the bees and wasps you can expect to see. (For the scientists among you, apologies for mixing taxonomic ranks here - we've used the lowest we could identify.)
